Choice counselling is a collaborative process. It is the establishment of agreed upon goals and outcomes between you and the psychologist. In doing so, you will have a part in developing your care planning. This will be with your input on how and when to change your drug use and/or identified sexual risk behaviours related to the drug use.
Our psychologist will teach you how drugs can affect your personal life and will offer you different methods to set your own goals and achieve them.
For some, the goal is to gain a better understanding of your drug use, to find solutions to problems. We will support you in this process of change and, if necessary, help you to choose and find an appropriate treatment.
If you need or want inpatient or outpatient treatment, our psychologist will help put you in touch with the best available facilities. However, this does not always mean that you will be helped immediately. This may be because of long waiting times, but also whether you are ready for it yourself. We offer help in the bridging period between question and treatment. We call this willingness to treat.
We support you from the intake procedure to your admission, and remain your confidant if you need us. We are the coaches who help you on your way to agreed solutions and treatment.
